Tendonitis – Acupuncture is a highly effective treatment

Tendonitis, also known as Golfer’s elbow or Tennis Elbow is a painful irritation of the tissue connecting the forearm muscle to the elbow. Tendonitis results from overuse of muscles in the forearm and hand. Although the injury is common in tennis players and golfers, it is not exclusive to them. Anybody can get tennis elbow when the muscles and tendons surrounding the joint become torn or ruptured.

Some of the symptoms of tennis elbow or golfer’s elbow include: Pain in the elbow that slowly increases, more intense pain when squeezing an object, elbow stiffness in the morning, a sudden shooting or sharp pain when moving the forearm.

I have a personal testimony as to the effectiveness of acupuncture for this condition. Many years ago when I first began my career as a bodyworker, I was getting into the whole routine of fitness and I developed tendonitis in my right elbow from lifting weights. I had no idea what it was. Considering my work was physical every day, the inflammation increased very quickly from the repetitive use of my arm. My forearm, at the elbow, was literally on fire. I can’t express how painful it was. I tried different therapies such as ice, massage therapy, etc. nothing was even touching the pain. I decided to look for an acupuncturist. At that time, there was only one located near me and it was a 45 minute drive. I went to the first treatment with no expectations, just in a severe amount of pain. The acupuncturist administered the needles with electrical stimulation. After the treatment and later that evening my pain was decreased to almost zero! I would say it was 90% better. I went for one more treatment within a week and the pain was virtually nonexistent. Being an acupuncturist myself (now) and having treated many a patient with this condition, it may take more than two treatments. However, acupuncture is extremely effective in reducing inflammation in the body whether it’s tendonitis or another form of inflammation. Acupuncture, along with contrast bathing and rest to the area, will definitely ease the pain and help heal this condition.

Golf season is in full swing (no pun intended!) so if you feel any discomfort at the inner elbow, be sure to call me for a treatment before it becomes chronic!
