Fatigue, whether chronic or acute, can be debilitating to say the least. Those of you that know me would never guess that I have battled chronic fatigue for over 10 years. I’ve done everything I could to treat it. While there has been some improvements since I was first diagnosed, there is still too many days that I would go home from work feeling like the energy was just completely drained out of me. If anyone has suffered with this, they know what I’m talking about. It’s hard to describe…. it’s like there’s no gas left in the tank. Your body aches, your brain is foggy and you literally cannot wait to get into bed.
According to the Mayo Clinic, “chronic fatigue is a complicated disorder characterized by extreme fatigue that can’t be explained by any underlying medical condition . It worsens with physical or mental activity but does not improve with rest . The cause is unknown, although there are many theories ranging from viral infections to stress, immune dysfunction, low blood pressure and nutritional deficiency. Symptoms include muscle and joint pain, headaches, impaired memory and mental concentration, body aches and, of course, extreme fatigue . This is usually a problem found an adults but it can also affect children.”
Over the years, I had to accept the symptoms as my “normal” and do my best to deal with them. The best combination of alternative therapy for me has been bodywork (including cupping, chiropractic and massage therapy ) on a consistent bi-monthly basis, supplements (vitamin D, turmeric, essential oils) getting plenty of rest and exercise. Water consumption is key too! I drink 80-90 ounces a day to keep my muscles and organs functioning optimally.
If you have any of these or other issues, even if you do not have a diagnosis, call me for a consultation. I will take a detailed intake and do my best to help you based on my own personal experience and arsenal of alternative therapies!
